Numa Falls (Veiled)
Most recent comment: Sunday, May 27th, 2007 at 17:23:05
This looks like hard rock - there is only one channel and the rocks are smooth.
I was just wondering how you got the water on your Numa Falls (http://www.johnharveyphoto.com/BCRoadTrip/Day3/VeiledFalls.html) to look like that sort of glowing sparkle to it. Short Exposure, Long Exposure?
Dave Reid Saturday, May 26th, 2007 at 23:54:11
Good question. The exposure (This is slide film so I don't have it recorded) was probably between 1/2 of a second and 4 seconds. You can't get this effect with a short exposure. I'm not sure what you mean by sparkle. If it's the very bright region on the left (upstream), I'm guessing it's two things - first the water may have been lit differently (few trees up river, but the canyon was enclosed) and then "exposure" when the slide was scanned - by brightening (I scanned at 16bit) that area was blown out.

Radishes On Wooden Box
love this one ... the dark / black background and bright sun cast on the radishes. I could see this in a still life oil painting.

Flare
Most recent comment: Thursday, May 17th, 2007 at 02:33:18
Normally, there is no way I would use this picture - I generally don't like flawed image capture and the I doubt I could come up with a worse case of flare (the waterproof case had water on the front of it). That said, it gives you a pretty good sense of just how nice it was out there to paddle.
Personally, I like the flare. I've take a few pictures where I was hoping to caputre the glare in the camera. As you have stated, it emphasizes the feeling of the moment or time of day.
In my favorite picture, the sun is a bit lower and reflects out over a lake. Everytime I look at it, it reminds me of that warm late after noon.

Most recent comment: Monday, May 14th, 2007 at 15:13:45
It looks to me like the strip on the South Side of Robson is zoned to be only a few stories high - it's funny to be walled on both sides by taller buildings.
ahh wat a great picture im just sitting here in australia day dreaming about coming back to BC...
and can see the room i was in when i was there on this photo! the palisades tower floor 23! the first one with a balcony :D. but on the other side of the building....

Kintai-kyo Bridge
Most recent comment: Wednesday, May 9th, 2007 at 05:18:33
The bridge is located in Iwakuni, further down the coast from Miyajima. The bridge was originaly built in 1673, but was destroyed in 1950 and rebuilt in 1953.
I stayed here 7 years ago .This place is very beautiful
fabricia Tuesday, May 8th, 2007 at 14:33:56
I was stationed at Iwakuni in 1957 when it was a Naval Air Station. I have visited this bridge a number of times and think it is one of the most beautiful places that I have seen. I was a photographer all my life and have a number of BW images taken here. It really doesn't look any different than it did 50 years ago. Thank God for that.
Don Roberts Saturday, December 22nd, 2007 at 08:16:03
I was stationed in Iwakuni Oct.1963 to Oct 1964. It looks like it did when I was over there. It is great to see some else enjoyed the bridge as I did.

Horses
Most recent comment: Monday, May 7th, 2007 at 05:34:28
The horse in front (my horse) is Ginger. Very calm - good for me because I haven't been on a horse for at least 10 years! The border collie cross walked with us for the full hour.
Thank you for a wonderful picture of your horse with accompanying border collie. I now have 3 b.c.'s and have just begun getting interested in horses again (been like 20 yrs since I rode once!) Just bought 2 fabulous books: "Of Women and Horses" whereby I fell in complete love and felt complete peace,,, and Special Needs, "Special Horses" because of my love of helping handicapped children on horses (did volunteer work in San Antonio and loved it!). Trying now to link up with the latter here near Raleigh, NC. But I just had operations 6-9 on my feet a Duke Hospital and my toes are fused - so am praying I can take lessons, plus volunteer.
Again, thank you. Where do you live by the way? Can I pull this picture up on my computer and can I frame it? I've been on ALLPOSTERS.com and found gorgeous pictures but just today found AppleBlossom.com and so I have my work laid out for me - I love nature and domestic animal pictures on my walls; gives them character! I presently have 6 dogs (also 2 dox and a sheep dog) and as a kid my dad got a blind horse for me - for some reason. What a mess that was!
Enjoy your day. God Bless!

Yup, it's the UFO game, but instead of getting some San Rio toy, you get live crabs. Bags are provided on the side.
I'm going to tokyo soon.. WHere can I find this machine exactly? If you can tell me that will be great. Many thanks, Yasmin

Swing in Tree - Namu
Most recent comment: Saturday, April 14th, 2007 at 00:26:35
The caretakers have two children. They were away when we visited but we were told the swing was a good place to play.
I grew up in Namu. We immigrated there from Denmark in 1952 when I was f ive and my dad was the town electrician. Some of my favourite memories of the place is the managers house I remember climbing the cherry tree and picking the flowers in the garden.
Ida eriksen Friday, April 13th, 2007 at 14:50:45
My father was a caretaker here and me and my sister would live there in the summer we played on the swing and the red fire engine and we would "steal" chewing gum from the store and eat it.We moved to Ireland in 2000 If the date on this photograph is correct we weren't gone too long when it was taken. Some fantastic memories in Namu and this picture stirred emotions.

SR 71 On Intrepid
I was wondering if it would be alright if I made a copy of your photo? It's my dad's favorite plane and I am making a scrapbook of military aircraft pictures for his 74th birthday.
Thanks...it's a great pic

Cabins and Forest - Wallace Bay
Most recent comment: Friday, March 9th, 2007 at 06:45:52
There were a number of cabins Wallace Bay. There doesn't seem to be much use of them today, but for the most part they are still standing.
it is a very nice spot
Our cabin is between the beautiful red one, (now unfortunately dilapitated) and the dilapitated green one right on the river. we are restoring it so it does not further rot. this restoration includes a cedar shake roof, running water, and landscaping, we have also cleared much of the debris left on our lot and are trying to restore some of the natural resources on the property so as to live there.
we love the cabins, we love the peace, and serenity, and we love the place
