I'm disoriented here - which lake is that in this photo?

You are looking roughly East - into Garibaldi Park. Whistler is behind you. You can see black tusk on your right.

Tokyo Harbour
Most recent comment: Saturday, August 12th, 2006 at 03:08:55

This is the view from Decks - a pasta place in the mall on Odaiba. The rainbow bridge is on the right, and the night dinner boats
are in the harbour. The harbour ferry is arriving at the terminal.

I was stationed in Tokyo harbour in August, 1945. We were housed in a quonset hut. I was hoping to see a picture of the signal tower located at the entrance of the harbour. That was my station because I was a signalman in the US Navy.I was hoping to see if the tower was still there. It was a concrete structure about three stories high and had a large steel mast and yardarm used for displaying signal flags. Can you shed any light on this? I would be very happy if you could be of any help on this.

I want to thank you, very much, for publishing my request at the top of your page. A gentleman located in Tokyo sent me an airmail letter in early 2009, stating that he had located me and asked if I were the man who posted the request. I responded and said yes, I was that person. He then went through the effort of getting as many pictures of the harbor as possible, made copies of them, and sent them to me. And YES, several of the photos showed the tower as it existed in 1945. I am very grateful that you posted the request and that the gentleman responded in a Herculean way. He sent me a total of 30 pictures. Two of them showed our Quonset hut that was our barracks and one showed the signal tower as it was in 1945. Again, many thanks for your fine help anad consideration for publishing my request.

I believe it's Lady Peak, but I'm not 100%

Great shot of Lady Peak...we actually flew over that spot a week later when we flew out to Abbotsford on July 10th, 2004 (from Toronto on Westjet).

Unlink the - the water here runs under the ice and is insulated from freezing further.

Purple Yellow Flowers

So why do they different colors? Are they the same color throughout, or will they all change over their life time.

this plant is called Lantana. The flowers start blooming at the lightest color and as they age, get deeper and deeper colored. The first flowers to come out are around the outside edge of the flower while the center flowers are still in bud. I love the variations in the colors. My lantana plant has deep pink, orange, yellow,

Stotan Falls

These falls are just below the confluence of the Puntledge and Browns Rivers. A fish ladder has been carved into the center of the falls.

Very nice picture.

These falls are actually upstream of the confluence of the Browns and Puntledge rivers, not below as you stated. Nice photos!

Cornet Fish
Most recent comment: Saturday, July 29th, 2006 at 08:22:50

These fish just hang out on the bottom in the flow.  From a distance, they look like some sort of grass just dragging in the current, but they are live.

Species: Fistularia commersonii (reef cornetfish)

these should be ghost pipefish... i mean you can heardly see them.

Hericium abietis - Conifer Coral Hericium
Most recent comment: Saturday, July 29th, 2006 at 08:22:30
When I saw this, I thought it was a cauliflower mushroom (you can occasionally buy them at Granville Island), but looking at my books, I suspect it is Hericium abietis - National Resources Canada's view.

hey, great photos! I'm planning on heading up to brandywine meadows this august '06. Went there ages ago... up to the alpine buy some route I can't remember. I think it's a nice little show case for friends coming from flat old Ontario!

I find lots of these in the Pacific Northwest. I have always believed that they are called a" Boars Head Tooth" mushroom. I'm pretty sure that is what yours is! Cheers!!

I believe this is one of the warning shots (like 9:40) - there is still a bit of residual glow in the sky which I quite like.

Blues and Purples
Most recent comment: Saturday, July 29th, 2006 at 08:21:59

I like this colour combination - blues and purples are delicate colours (unlike reds, oranges and greens)
so to see them well balanced like this was nice.

In Smith's Paradise. It's not a powerful shot, but this is
one of my favorite flower pictures. I believe it's Frangipani but I'm far from sure.

Just wanted to tell you how beautiful this photo is and how you seem to be able to catch perfection when you take photos.

Dog Fish Being Photographed
Most recent comment: Wednesday, July 12th, 2006 at 07:09:25

This is a Spiny Dogfish, also called mud shark (to scare children).  While we were
tied up here it's all the fisherman on board pulled up.  You can't even use them for
bait - the fish smells badly of amonia.

im 12 years old and my dad and I went fishing near boston i caught four dogfish and my dad caught three. The next day we went to check our lobster traps and thier was a dog fish in thier but we forgot a camera again. a couple of the dogfish we caught were 5 or 6 feet it was awsome
