Sunset On Chesterman Beach
Saturday, January 28th, 2023 at 20:30:24 The lens was set to 29mm. Photography started at 8:06pm, f5.6 at 1/2500th of a second (under exposed 2 stops, ISO 100) and ended at 10:09pm at f5.6, 6 second exposure, ISO 200. There were 918 photos taken at a 8 second interval. No stabilization required. Exposure compensation in post was pretty easy. Shame there wasn't much of a sunset, but the beach fire at the end really helped. The family did have a metal beach fire basket thing which is required on this beach. Anna Preening Tripod
Sunday, January 22nd, 2023 at 00:11:33 Like usual, this was harder than I expected. The Hummingbird was in a tree on my parents back deck. They have two hummingbird feeders and I suspect this guy "owns" one of them. I took this video with a 400mm lens and 2x teleconverter. This is almost the close focus limit - without the teleconverter, I wouldn't be able to get close enough to fill the frame with this small bird. In the original, the branch the Anna is on is moving quite a bit. The background branches are also moving in their own directions. I had to write a script to stabilize on the bottom branch. Milky Way Over Pyramid Mountain
Sunday, January 22nd, 2023 at 00:09:58 I put the camera out on the dock and left it shooting and went back to bed. The sequence started at 12:08 am and finished at 1:22am for 73 photos. The images are taken every 62 seconds. The exposure is 30 seconds at f2.8 and ISO 800. The camera was set in manual mode so the exposure didn't change. The mountain is called pyramid mountain. Moonrise Over Trial Islands Lighthouse
Sunday, January 22nd, 2023 at 00:09:39 There are a whole bunch of things wrong with how I took this. Exposure was every 2 seconds and this is 100 frames long (3 minutes, 20 seconds). Exposure was f 5.6, 1/320th of a second at ISO 400 which was about 3 stops too faint. The f5.6 was dictated by the long lens setup and the 1/320th of a second was to reduce motion blur. The biggest problem was the tripod. It was quite windy out (you can see the flag flapping) so the camera was actually blowing quite a bit. All of these frames were aligned by hand from the silhouettes of the house and lighthouse. I have more frames of the moon rising into the night sky, but I can't align them because I have no fixed part of the frame. It was so dark that even fully ramped up, I can't see the light house building. I was surprised how much the moon is distorted - it isn't round and the face is blurred by changes in air density. I can understand why people usually take pictures of churches in the mountains rather than lighthouses on the horizon. Granville Street Sunrise
Sunday, January 22nd, 2023 at 00:09:24 This is one of the first timelapses where I wish I captured a few more frames. 519 frames, starting at 6:28am and running to 7:54. Sunrise was at 7:34am. The interval was 10 seconds - it started at f9, 8 seconds and ended at f22, 0.3 of a second. I didn't get the time down fast enough so some of the frames were at f22 but wanted to be more closed. You can see some flickers at the start on the right hand side. That is flare from cars on the bridge. There is quite a bit of shaking when buses go over the expansion joints in the bridge - surprisingly that didn't show up. Rainbow At Pitt Addington Marsh
Sunday, January 22nd, 2023 at 00:09:18 236 frames. The interval is 1 second making this roughly 30 times faster than real time. It was shot at 34mm. The exposure was f7.1 at 1/200th of a second. Started at 2:42:35PM, finished at 2:46:30PM because people started walking up the blind which caused the building to shake.
